As we make preparations to begin painting and reflooring the Master Bedroom and Rivers' Tower. Rivers is getting lots of Home Depot time with Grandpa Bob. This is just how they roll. 

Spa Day

 

Monday, the Marvelettes went to the Spa. And by golly, did they enjoy themselves! 

Here Rivers is brushing Katherine. If you click on the picture below, you can see her big black eyes closed with the gentle stroking. Completely relaxed. Each one of them, loved the warm water, the hair styling, and even the warm air blowing from the hair dryer. 

 

Sweet Georgeanna, peeking out from the comfort of the swaddling towel. I went in and rocked her, Eyes closed. She loved every minute of her Spa day.

So gorgeous, and fluffy! 

Going Out

The Marevelettes had their first day "out on the town" yesterday. They pecked the ground, spread their wings, and hopped around. They seemed to really enjoy themselves. I think they're going to like their new coop (building begins tomorrow).

Rivers and the Marvelous Marvelettes!

My friend (and the incredible Primary President whom I am secretary) is going to be moving to Georgia this summer. For Christmas they had given their son chickens (it's all he wanted for Christmas, even though he knew they would have to be re-homed due to the pending move). Last Wednesday Lori wrote me, said the chickens are ready to go outside, and would we want them? YES!  

So Friday night, Ben and Rivers drove to Tractor Supply and purchased a Coop Kit and supplies to create a Chicken Run. Saturday the building began. 

Saturday evening, Lori came by with a "surprise" delivery (Rivers didn't think we would obtain the chickens until the coop was built). With her, she had 5 gorgeous black chickens. 

Being as it was Black History Month and the chickens are all black. We decided to name them after an all black, ladies musical group. Heads up, most musical groups (at least composed of all black ladies) consist of 3 women. We searched and searched, until we landed on this Motown group from the early 60's (you would know them immediately by the 1961 #1 single "Please Mr. Postman") - the Marvelettes.

Now, you may count the ladies in the picture and say "Wait! Melanie, I'm only counting 4, and you have 5 Marvelettes. What gives?" You're right. There are only 4 main Marvelettes, from the 1960's Motown group. But there were three other past members (come on, it's a girl group, you really think they would all stick together for the entire duration? Drama, drama, drama. :). The other members were: Ann Bogan, Juanita Cowart, and Georgia Dobbins. 

This was great! We had three other names to choose from for our personal Marvelous Marvelettes! Since Wanda and Janita sound similar and Georgeanna and Georgia sound similar, that made the decision even more simple. Ann would be it. (Although, if we are to spell out the name Ann, I think we've got to go with Anne - with an "e" any other way just won't do). 

So that's our girl's names: Gladys (she's the one on Rivers shoulder), Katherine, Georgeanna, Wanda, and Anne (the little one in Rivers hands).
